whats a good reptile/amphibian pet to have?

admin on September 26th, 2008

i'm moving my white's tree frog out of his small 5 gallon tank to a 15 gallon tank. My parents said i could get another pet to put in that 5 gallon tank. so i need help choosing a reptile/amphibian pet that doesn't require alot of room or any fancy plants and easy to take care of and please no snakes

not a water dragon ——- they get up too 3 feet and need a water dish they can soak in —- mine is still young and in a 30 gallon tank and as soon as he reaches max size 3 feet he will need a bigger tank so. dont got with a water dragon

Fire-bellied Newt —– you can keep up too 3 in a 10 gallon tank so 1 in a 5 should be suffecient

  1. uh… a water dragon? They're tiny and really cute :D
I've never had one but my school has, I think they eat crickets.
But… maybe you should look them up.

  2. Hermit Crab.

EDIT: Just wanted to add that a lot of the recommendations you've received are NOT good ideas! A five gallon tank is too small for anything besides maybe a hermit crab or fish. Leopard geckos for example, need at least a 10 gallon if not bigger…

  3. pac man frogs are pretty cool. or maybe a hermit crab?

  4. any reptile you get will eventually need to be moved out of the 5 gallon tank.. its just much too small.

how bout you turn it into an aquarium with a betta?

  5. Try a Golden Gecko, they're very beautifully colored and love snacking on bugs. I used to have one and it ate any insect that was in its cage. GG are very easy to take care of too, just get it from a juvenile and make sure they've been handled before.

grass lizards are kind of cool and low maintenance

    Geckos are cool to.

  7. pac mans get around 5-6 inches and need a 10-20 gallon tank. Water dragons reach 3 FEET and need a 6 foot by 4 foot tank. Golden Geckos need at least a 10 gallon. I would get a hurmit crab really that is all that will fit unless you are looking to up grade them at some point.

  8. a fire belly toad

    one or two

would be good for the cage size but no more than that

there pretty small and stay that way

but mine have a 10 gallon

  9. A leopard gecko is the right pet for you! They're easy to take care of and they fun to have as pets. They eat crickets, mealworms, waxworms, worms etc. But if your parents let you, get a bearded dragon they are fun to play with even more! You can bring em' outside and play with them in the grass (when it's warm and the sun is out, or they will freeze). You can also take them on walks in your neighborhood. They are self defending and a bird would die before it could dig its claws into one of these. I wouldn't get a frog, for most are bad to touch. For your or the frog's health. I had a Leopard gecko and she was so much fun to ply with, I even had a house for her. By the way they like to go in warm dark places. So if I were you with not much experience with reptiles get a leopard gecko. Snakes are fun and all but really they get annoying after awhile. My friend had a corn snake and he eventually had to give it away because it was big enough to eat mice, which he didn't want to feed it. He was 7 at the time so cut him some slack. I hope my advice has helped you, and I hope you choose a good pet for you! Good luck!

  10. I agree with the leopard gecko, but only one.. If you get any type of tree frog or any lizard that likes to climb, you will need to turn the aquarium up on its end and put things in there for it to climb on.

  11. Poison dart frogs. They stay small and would be fine in a 5 gallon, plus the maintenance is low, just a lot of humidity.
