I'm going away and giving my friend my green tree frog with a tank i can't ex plane to him how to take care of

it

print up this list of instructions for him. i find that in the past when freinds have "dumped" their pets on me, if there is a list of instructions i am more inclined to keep it. not only does it seem like the pet is easy to take care of, it insures the pet, in this case you beloved frog, will have proper care. it saves your freind alot of time and energy and he won't have to remember anything he can just keep the list of instructions posted on his cage.

instructions:

First, tree frogs need moisture. I'm not talking about they get thirsty really quickly. Their skin dries up within minutes of handling. Get a large aquarium. Fill it with about a water bottle full of water. Make sure the water stays clean and is changed regularly. Bottled water (NOT distilled) is best.
Tree frogs escape really easily. Put a screen on top of it, so they can breathe.
We've covered the basic. Now on to the harder care.
Fill about half of it with light, sand or tree bark. Tree frogs originate in tropical regions, and are used to either type. Getting bark/sand from a pet store is best because it is sifted and is sure not to have any chemicals or harmful agents. Do not use garden potting soil, as there are chemicals in it that will make your frog sick!
Cover it with items found in the region you caught it: leaves, twigs, dirt, bugs. Frogs love to climb, so make sure there are plenty of places for them to jump and climb on. They are also nocturnal, so a dark place to sleep in the daytime is important. Try flipping a plastic bowl upside down (chinese take-out bowls work well) and cutting a small door in the side.
Get some food. In nature, tree frogs have a wide diet. This includes bugs such as crickets, which are found worldwide. Go out at about dawn or dusk. This is when the crickets are most active, and easiest to catch. Crickets are also available at pet stores and are pretty inexpensive. It is good to dust the crickets with some calcium powder (from the pet store) once a week to help your frog's bones stay strong. UV (sun) light also helps with this. Some frogs will also eat meal worms, earth worms, or even pinkie mice!
Keep a small dish of dry fish food flakes in the terrarium for the crickets to eat. It will give them nourishment to pass on to the frogs, and will also prevent them from nibbling on the frogs backs when they get hungry.
Go to the pet store and get items from the Amphibian aisle.
Go to the library and check out books on frogs. Maybe you can find your frog's fave food.

frog care daily check list:
fed 1-4 small crickets done/ not done
(depending on the size of the frog, every other day)

make sure water is clean done/ not done

bowl filled with falkes food- can be left over a week
done/ not done

fire bellied newts care?

how do you look after them, feed them, and so on.
The tank is going to be in a very bad place, there is things on the shelf above it and I can't get my hand into it.

My boyfriend and I have two. ( although I take better care of them) We have a 10 gallon tank with a hood and light. The light is on a timer so it turns off at night automatically. We had to newt proof the lid by adding some mesh to the back so they can't climb out.

We have an under water filter that keeps the water clean. make sure when buying a filter that they won't get stuck to it. Also it shouldn't move the water too much they don't like fast moving water. We use aquarium rocks on the bottom. The habitat is mostly water with an area where they can climb up on and bask. There is also a large rock that goes over the water line where they can bask. and a cave where they can hide or climb up on it.
Lots of fake plants but I'm thinking about changing to live plants.

I feed ours dried tubeiflex worms and frozen blood worms. In the summer we may get them small earth worms. I feed them with feeding tongs moving the food around until they become interested and chase it. I feed ours small amounts twice a day.

Before my boyfriend moved in with me he had two newts breed. Sadly the babies died and the mom ran away.

What is the best way to catch a salamander or newt?

I am thinking about keeping a salamander or newt for a pet. (after reading up about them and learning how to take care of one, of course!) What is the best way to catch one, and where do most live?

You should never take an animal out of the wild. In a lot of places it is illegal and also they could come diseased and will be more aggressive then a captive bred.

Go to a pet store and buy a captive bred one (they can order you in one if they don't have one)

How to Care for a Gray Tree Frog?

I bought a Gray Tree Frog at the mall yesterday. How big does the tank need to be? He's in a 2.5 gallon right now. What kind of bedding should I use? I have newspaper down right now. Should I give him a bowl of water? I've been spraying him with a water bottle. Does he need something to climb on? I've put a rock in the tank with him.

That 2.5 gallon tank should only be very temporary. The gray tree frog will need a 10 gallon tank in order to be healthy and happy, 15 gallon tank if you want two. Coco fiber bedding is best, and use a low att bulb to provide mild heat for them. He will need a large saucer-like water dish to take a soak in.

In the ten gallon, he'll want more than a rock to climb on. Make it interesting, driftwood and other structures should provide interest while looking natural, for example.

Below is more care information than can be provided in one post.

Barred Tiger Salamander?

hi, ive just got a new pet hes a barred tiger salamander (Corneilias) hes about 8-10cm long and grows to a size of up to 14"..does anyone have any experience with these amphibians? e.g care and do the males grow bigger then the females? ive gotten as much info as i could before i got him , i just wanna know from hands on experience. thanx!

I had a look in my book but could not see the one that fits your description..maybe it's a new strain but there is that's pretty close.

Tiger Salamander.[ Ambystoma Tigrinum] they both seem to grow to the same size. 5-8 ins. Found in the United States. It spends most of the year on land, where it digs tunnels in the earth and winters in holes in the ground;it usually breeds in the early spring. The male produces several spermatophores, which the female takes up into her vent. Quite soon afterwards she lays several clumps of eggs on water plants, and incubation lasts 2-3 weeks. The fully grown larva is 7-91/2 ins long and has three pairs of branched external gills and a crest along the back and tail. This larva can itself become sexually mature and reproduce by neoteny. If the ponds they are living in dry out,or if they are fed with thyroid, the larvae complete their development to the adult stage.
